If the sender or recipient is identified in a country other than Belgium, structured electronic invoicing is only authorised with the consent of the recipient. The format and method of transmission are determined by bilateral agreement between the sender and the recipient. Peppol is an international network increasingly used in other countries. If you are connected to the Peppol network, you can also send invoices to companies outside Belgium that are connected to the Peppol network and, conversely, receive invoices from foreign suppliers via the Peppol network, if they offer this possibility. Registration on the Peppol network is considered as an agreement to receive structured electronic invoices (at least in Peppol-BIS format). This allows you to see for yourself which customers (even international clients) are ready and willing to receive structured electronic invoices in a secured way.

Among European Member States, this could possibly change in the future, depending on the negotiations on the ViDA (VAT in the digital age) proposal at European level (COM(2022) 701 of 08.12.2022). If this changes, we will adapt this FAQ.
