The 2 euro commemorative coins 2021 are issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the economic union between Belgium and Luxembourg and the 500th anniversary of the issuing of the second series of coins ordered by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.

The Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union (BLEU) was concluded between Belgium and Luxembourg for a period of 50 years, creating a customs union and a currency union with the aim of strengthening cooperation and integration between both countries. On 25 July 1921, the first 50-year treaty was signed. The BLEU is still in effect today.

More information regarding the 500-year-old Carolus guilders can be found on the website of the Museum of the National Bank of Belgium. 

None of the 2 euro commemorative coins will be put into circulation, but they will be issued as collector’s items.

You find the issuances of the official assortment 2020 by the Royal Mint of Belgium below.

The 2 Euro commemorative coin celebrating the international year of plant health 2020 is put into circulation . It concerns 600,000 coins which were mixed with the other 2 Euro coins currently into circulation. Therefore, these coins are not packed in rolls, and not available to collectors and not sold, even at the counters of the National Bank of Belgium.  The 2 Euro commemorative coins were put into circulation during the year 2020 according to the general demand regarding 2 Euro coins on the market. Besides, the commercial issuances (coincard and Proof) can be purchased on the following website.
