Return through an accountant

Your 2021 return through an accountant

  • Can I use an accountant to file my return?

Yes. Anyone who has to file a return can use an accountant (or tax advisor). The accountant has to have a business number.

You and your accountant have to create a power of attorney. Then, your accountant will complete your return and will take responsibility for filing it via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web).

  • What is the deadline?

To avoid receiving a reminder letter (if the deadline for filing your return yourself has passed), we strongly recommend that you contact an accountant and create your power of attorney by 31 August 2021.

Your accountant will have until 21 October 2021 to file your return.

  • How can I check that my accountant has indeed filed my return?

As soon as it has been received, you can view your return in MyMinfin:

    • Go to MyMinfin.be and log in.
    • Click on 'My return / My proposed simplified return'.

Creating and stopping a power of attorney

  • How do I create a power of attorney?

Your accountant will create the power of attorney in our secure 'Powers of Attorney' application.

You will then have to accept this power of attorney:

    • Log in to the application:
    • Click on the link given under 'Powers of Attorney awaiting my signature'.
    • Follow the steps indicated on the screen to sign your power of attorney.

In most cases, your accountant will be able to help you with this.

  • Can I stop a power of attorney?

You can stop your power of attorney yourself at any time. You do not necessarily have to warn your accountant.

NB: once your power of attorney has been stopped, your accountant can no longer file your return.

    How do I do it?

    • Log in to the 'Powers of Attorney' application
    • Click on the power of attorney that you wish to stop.
    • Follow the steps given on the screen.

NB: for security reasons, our members of staff cannot access your power of attorney. There is therefore no point in contacting them to have your power of attorney cancelled.
